Stumbling Out

Welp, I had hoped to have shared playable versions of multiple game prototypes by late into the second month, but that plan failed. I’m not going to be too hard on myself, though, since it is well established this the first month or two of a new year is light on productivity.

Last time, I excitedly announced a game experiment and probably over did it with all the pictures and descriptions. (I don’t think it’ll be sustainable for me to write up such an update each week, so will try to keep it much slimmer.) The game is somewhat playable and kinda fun even, but I kept tinkering with it to try to make a properly complete gameplay loop all while also polishing behaviors and systems for a richer experience. I may have mistakenly taken this too far when I could’ve just shared a playable toy to begin with.

Stumbling Out 2

Not long after, I started a second game prototype which has even less gameplay, or more accurately it has literally no gameplay and really is just a silly toy. Without explaining it at all yet, I’ll just say it’s a bit abstract and focuses on a musical component. I guess the aforementioned lesson could be applied here and I could just release it right away before I make the mistake of improving it.

And then shortly after this, for the stretch of a month from mid Jan through mid Feb, I did manage to churn out and publish a hefty update of subtle improvements and fixes for REVO. I’ve done some good things for my game studio’s main project and I do feel good about those things. It’s important I continue to build that business, support the games published through the studio, and learn how to get that game discovered more. Lot’s of little things are happening in regard to that which I’m excited about and working hard on.

So let me stop here before I make the same mistake as before and drone on further. It’s been a very busy and productive two months, yet I’m pretty disappointed I’ve failed to ship the first playable experiments. That’s something I would like to rectify this week, so keep an eye out for those, or just go play what I already have out from previous years over on my Itch page.
